Bangladesh: 13 killed, 9 injured as truck rams into pick-up van on Sylhet-Dhaka highway
By Sahidul Hasan Khokon: At least 13 people were killed and nine others were injured after a truck rammed into a pickup van on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway in the Nazir Bazar area of Sylhet in Bangladesh on Wednesday.
As per local media reports, nine of the deceased were identified as Haris Mia, Sourav, Sadhu Mia, Tayef Nur, Sagar, Rashid Mia, Dulal Mia, Badsha Mia and Wahid Ali. The identification of four bodies is yet to be done.
The accident took place at around 5:30 am when a sand-laden truck hit a pickup van carrying 20-22 construction workers in the Kutubpur area, said Md Samsuddoha, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma police station.
The injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Vehicular movement remained suspended for three hours on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway following the accident, causing traffic jam. The traffic movement resumed after police intervention.
