However, it was not Musk’s choice to stay away from Twitter; he was visiting a country where the platform is banned. Musk is currently in China and has refrained from posting any tweets since his arrival, as the app is inaccessible in the country.
As per Bloomberg, Musk tweeted every single day in 2023, sometimes multiple times. However, he has now stopped tweeting in China, which is his longest break since June 2022. Back then, he was busy buying Twitter and making it private. It’s worth noting that China has banned many foreign social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. However, people can still access them using virtual private networks (VPNs).
Despite the ban on certain social media and news websites in China, people can access them using virtual private networks (VPNs). VPNs create a secure and encrypted connection, allowing users to bypass China’s censorship measures. While the personal use of VPNs is technically illegal in China, enforcement varies, and many people in the country still utilize this service.
Musk’s unusual silence on Twitter has led some users to speculate on the reasons behind it. Some suggest that he might have encountered difficulties setting up a VPN, while others believe he may have deemed it inappropriate for the situation. It’s worth noting that Musk’s schedule has been quite hectic, including a meeting with Tesla’s Shanghai plant staff late in the evening on Wednesday.
As per reports Musk had meetings with government officials and local business leaders in China. He emphasized the interconnectedness of China and the United States. He stated that Tesla was against the idea of separating from China and was committed to expanding its presence in the country. The Chinese government issued a statement confirming this.
Musk is likely to expand Tesla’s presence in China. The company’s Shanghai factory is its only manufacturing plant outside of the US, and it produces about half of Tesla’s global output. However, Tesla faces increasing competition from Chinese electric vehicle makers, such as BYD and Geely. By meeting with Chinese government officials and business leaders, Musk is hoping to secure Tesla’s long-term position in the Chinese market.
