Florida man assaulted in theatre after asking couple to move from his reserved seats

By India Today World Desk: A 63-year-old disabled veteran was physically assaulted by a young man in a Florida movie theatre after he asked him to move from the seats he had reserved.

According to the police, the victim, who has not been identified, pre-purchased VIP tickets for himself and his wife to see the Hollywood movie, Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, in Pompano Beach theatre on July 10.

When he saw a young couple in their reserved seats, the man politely asked them to move and sit somewhere else. But the suspect allegedly became aggressive and started attacking him, The Independent reported.

“That is when the suspect turned hostile, aggressive, got in the victim’s face to the point that it forced the victim to stand back,” Claudinne Caro, a Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.

Mike Sington, who is a senior executive at NBC News, shared the footage of the senior citizen being attacked by the suspect.

During the argument, the victim took a step back, lost his balance and fell onto the steps leading to the seating rows of the theatre. As the senior citizen was on the ground, the suspect punched him repeatedly in the face.

Footage showed other people present in the theatre trying to stop the suspect from punching the senior citizen, who was attempting to shield himself on the ground. The suspect and the woman fled the theatre after the incident.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital as he suffered injuries to his head and face and required stitches, The Independent reported.

Later, speaking to NBC6, the victim said the suspect kept on staring at him when he asked him and the woman to move from the seats he reserved.

“I said to the people at this point who didn’t apologise or say thank you, I said, ‘You guys can just keep the seats,'” the senior citizen said.

“As I’m walking away, he said, ‘Go run to your wife, little boy.’ So, I turned around and I said, ‘You know, I’m not the one who’s being a little boy, you took my seats and you didn’t apologise or you did not say thank you and I let you keep them,'” the victim stated.

“He jumped up. He wanted to fight me. He backed me up. I fell over the stairs and as soon as I fell down, it was like a boxer being against the ropes, this guy just went to town on me,” the victim further said.

The victim went on to say that he never got a chance to defend himself as “everything happened so fast”.

The police are on the lookout for the suspect and the woman and seeking people’s assistance.
