Man arrested for opening emergency door mid-air in South Korea flight, several injured

By India Today World Desk: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday for opening the emergency door of an aeroplane mid-air, minutes before it was scheduled to land at Daegu International Airport in South Korea.

Authorities confirmed that the Asiana Airlines flight landed safely at the Daegu airport with the door still open. Over a dozen people suffered injuries and breathing problems, while nine of them were rushed to a hospital, sources said.

The man, who was seated near the emergency door, opened it when the plane was about 700 feet above the ground and about two to three minutes from landing, reports stated. The 30-year-old was arrested upon landing, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

A video shot by a passenger from inside the plane when the incident happened is going viral on social media.

The Asiana Airlines aircraft, flight OZ8124, had flown from Jeju Island and was about to land in Daegu when the incident occurred. It had a total of 200 people onboard, including 194 passengers.

In a statement, the Asiana Airlines authorities said the police were investigating the matter.
