MultiVersus Can Make a Splash When It Returns By Embracing This Meme

Highlights MultiVersus, a platform brawler featuring Warner Bros. characters, had a strong open beta release and potential to become popular in the genre. Despite Warner Bros. temporarily shutting down MultiVersus’ open beta, there is hope that the hiatus will allow for improvements and the addition of new characters, including Walter White from Breaking Bad. The possibility of a Breaking Bad crossover in MultiVersus is not out of the question, as Warner Bros. has collaborated with other studios in the past to include characters from outside IPs in Mortal Kombat. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what surprises the next phase of the game will bring.

First released in beta in 2022, MultiVersus made its own mark in the platform brawler scene by using a wide range of Warner Bros. characters, ranging from cartoon icons like Bugs Bunny and Shaggy, to well-known superheroes like Superman and Batman. Just like its predecessor Super Smash Bros Ultimate, the fighters had special abilities that could help players in each battle. Some players who tried out the MultiVersus open beta believed that it had the potential to become the next big thing in the genre. However, its run was temporarily cut short after Warner Bros. shut down MultiVersus’ open beta, with the promise that the game would be back during the first half of 2024.

While some have feared that the hiatus could be a bad move for MultiVersus, there are still people who hold out hope for the title. It’s likely that developer Player First Games will be using this time to improve on MultiVersus’ quality and even add new playable characters. There are still several untapped characters in Warner Bros. roster, but there’s one character that MultiVersus fans have been requesting above all: Walter White from Breaking Bad.

Why Walter White Should Finally Be in MultiVersus walter white from breaking bad

Despite the abrupt end of MultiVersus’ open beta, the community still showed their love through reviews and entertaining memes. One of the most popular memes was adding Breaking Bad’s Walter White to the brawler. Many social media users have posted concepts for Walter’s possible MultiVersus design and move set, and even flood the game’s Steam page with images of the Breaking Bad protagonist to hopefully catch the attention of the developer. There’s even a Twitter account dedicated to Walter White in MultiVersus.

It’s an odd choice mostly because Breaking Bad isn’t under Warner Bros. Some might even argue that Walter isn’t physically fit for a fighter because he’s a normal human in his early 50s, and he doesn’t engage in high-intensity combat for the majority of the show. In fact, he mostly worked in the shadows to cook “Blue Sky” under the codename Heisenberg. But of course, if Walter does get added to MultiVersus’ roster, he would likely be given greater power to take down his opponents, in the same way basketball icon LeBron James got powers in the game.

Warner Bros. doing a once-in-a-lifetime Breaking Bad crossover isn’t out of the question. It’s certainly possible that it would adopt Walter, especially if one would look at the collaborations that NetherRealm Studios (which is owned by Warner Bros.) is doing with The Boys and Invincible for Mortal Kombat 1. Both are Amazon Studios shows, but still, Homelander and Omni-Man made it to Mortal Kombat 1’s roster. This shows that Warner Bros. is ready to work with other studios, especially if the characters it’s eyeing were a perfect fit for certain video game titles.

MultiVersus’ developer already hinted at the possibility of adding Walter during the open beta period. Although it didn’t come into fruition before it went into hiatus, the dev did promise “good surprises,” so it’s still possible that Walter would arrive during the next phase. Walter White was already a prominent meme within the MultiVersus community, so it’s about time for him to finally join the roster. It would certainly be a big splash and rewarding moment for the many fans who have been campaigning online.

For now, MultiVersus fans would have to wait and see what Player First Games and Warner Bros. Interactive will have in store next year. If the game’s reception will be better, the devs might even look into starting a professional league, where old and potential new characters like Walter White could shine even more.

MultiVersus will launch in 2024 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
