The Communication Specialist is a key member of our Optum Care Technology team supporting both the California and Mountain West markets (CO, NM, NV). They will work closely with market leadership and IT project teams to develop and implement IT communication strategies and initiatives focused on engaging teammates within IT as well as educating teammates across the broader organization about key IT initiatives. They should understand how to translate IT initiatives into messages for end users, be skilled at developing and executing communication plans and collateral using a wide range of media, and be a superb writer who produces clear, concise and compelling communications for varied audiences. Primary Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with market leadership, local and national communication and training teams, and local project teams to create a cohesive experience for our team members Aid in developing and implementing internal IT communication vehicles, materials and messaging such as news digests, email, intranet presence/content, presentations, collateral, town halls (audio and live), video scripts, executive communications, and manager communication tools including guides, talking points, and FAQs Gain and understanding for and synthesize complex IT processes and solutions into easily digestible visuals and messages Manage multi-way feedback and define and implement applicable metrics for IT communication Partners closely with the incident management team to ensure appropriate communication to team members during major incidents or outages Partner closely with the national executive support, planning and communications team on organizational alignment, orientation and onboarding, and employee engagement activities Understand project requirements and concepts, pitch creative ideas, and listen to feedback to hone skills and improve communications Participate in creative brainstorming sessions, offering ideas, feedback and insight Communicate effectively and regularly across levels to develop concepts and ascertain needs Complete projects with creativity and attention to detail Create unique, high-impact design solutions including presentations, logos, banners, interfaces, templates, posters and signage, marketing materials, and campaigns Act as the steward of the local IT brand, bringing forward success stories and wins and promoting IT as a strategic partner to the business Push the envelope creatively, introducing new ideas and visual concepts, while in adherence with Optum’s visual identity and branding Stay up to date with current communication trends, new technology, and emerging tools You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Success Factors: Ability to quickly grasp concepts and turn work around quickly Understand an audience and tailor messaging appropriately Demonstrate various approaches to the completion of work depending on the situation or work required Ability to work independently as a trusted advisor Required Qualifications: 3+ years of relevant experience, with a portfolio of previous work 2+ years of experience developing and implementing communications plans, vehicles, media, and messaging 2+ years of experience communicating to both technical and non-technical audiences 2+ years of experience writing for a business audience If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree Ability to translate IT strategy, complex topics and technical language into compelling communications for a variety of audiences A strong command of grammar, spelling and both business and AP-style writing Experience with content management systems and email delivery platforms (e.g., Poppulo or Salesforce) Experience with design programs (PowerPoint, Keynote), design software (InDesign, Illustrator, InVision, Visio), and graphics editing tools (Photoshop, CorelDRAW) is a plus Experience with virtual meeting platforms (WebEx, Teams) and able to execute and manage events for large groups of people Strong time management and organizational skills Healthcare industry experience SharePoint experience Ability to succeed in a geographically dispersed matrixed environment Strong relationship building and management skills Experience taking initiative while working in a less structured, high profile environment Pacific or Mountain Time Zone Preferred Travel: Up to 10% Optum is a diversified health services and innovation company where data, technology, people and action combine to make great things happen every day.
