One of Persona 5: The Phantom X's New Characters Is Becoming Very Popular

Highlights
Okyann, a new Persona user in Persona 5: The Phantom X, has quickly become popular among fans despite limited information about her. Okyann is a middle-aged woman with a unique fashion style. Fans are excited about Okyann because she represents a much-needed female adult Persona user, a rarity in the Persona series since the Persona 2 games.
One of the newest Persona users introduced in the beta of Persona 5: The Phantom X is quickly becoming very popular within the fanbase. This character goes by the code name of Okyann, and is one of the characters players can pull in the Persona 5 mobile spin-off. The first beta had introduced fans to a bunch of new Persona users in Persona 5: The Phantom X, with many of them having individual designs and code names. It’s apparent that these new characters are summonable by fusion, though they are also characters available to socialize with outside the Metaverse.
Persona 5: The Phantom X’s second beta has started recently, with players able to meet even more new characters. This includes new party members for Phantom X like Soy and Leo, who are designed after certain motifs like the former being a cowboy and the latter being a reference to Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. Based on design alone, some characters have already become fan favorites, such as the Chinese college student Rin. One character in particular, Okyann, has become incredibly popular despite fans knowing very little about her.
According to a translated biography from Pan-Hime on Twitter, Okyann’s real name is Kayo Tohyama. She is a 44-year-old woman, and is the next door neighbor of Persona 5: The Phantom X’s protagonist. She was formerly a fashionista, but is now currently a homemaker with a happy family, though there is some sort of emptiness in her heart. Like the other characters introduced so far, she uses a Persona II named Cleodora. The gap between her real-world and metaverse designs were all that fans needed to instantly take a shine to her.
Her Phantom Thief attire is similarly beloved, with some noting that it takes cues from Gyaru culture. This includes her having a unique fashion style, tan skin, blonde hair, and even a flip phone. Gameplay of Okyann in the metaverse showed that her style hasn’t slowed down either, where she can grant buffs and heal the player’s party, as she is the team’s navigator.
Fans noted that Okyann is what the series should have more often. A female adult Persona user hasn’t been seen since Mayo Amano and Ulala Serizawa from the Persona 2 games. While the series would get more heroic adult Persona users, they’ve mostly been men like Zenkichi Hasegawa from Strikers. Kayo Tohyama currently holds the distinction of being the oldest Persona-user at 44, and many fans are hoping that she could be included in the mainline games.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is currently in development for PC and Mobile devices.
