The Sims 4: How to Reset a Sim

The Sims 4 allows players to let their imaginations run wild and create their perfect (or chaotic) little world and have complete control over their Sims’ virtual lives. It’s fun playing around with the characters and making elaborate storylines for each Sim. But at the end of the day, it is still a video game, and video games often glitch.

Everyone’s been there – lost in the game world for hours, and all of a sudden, one of the Sims stops behaving the way they should be. It may start freezing and get trapped behind something or become totally unresponsive, making players think about getting rid of that Sim. In a situation like that, the only way to get the Sim back to normal function in The Sims 4 is by resetting it.

How to Reset a Sim in Sims 4

Various methods and cheats can be used to reset a Sim in The Sims 4. Nevertheless, before using any cheat codes, it is recommended to save the game. This ensures that the game can be reverted to its previous state in case of unintentional changes or errors. Interestingly, saving the game and restarting it can troubleshoot and resolve various issues that may arise.

These shortcut commands can be used to activate cheats within The Sims 4.

On PC, enable the cheats window by pressing down on the “Ctrl + Shift + C” keys simultaneously. For Xbox players, press and hold the LT + RT + LB + RB triggers for a few seconds. This should enable the cheats within the game. For PS4 and PS5 users, press down on the L1 + R1 + L2 + R2 buttons simultaneously to access the cheats window.

If done correctly, a blank dialogue box will open in the top-left corner of the screen to enter cheat codes.

This method directly resets a Sim by using their first and last name.

Type “testingCheats true” in the dialogue box. Once the cheats window pops up, it should display the message “Cheats are Enabled.” In the cheat box, type the cheat code “resetSim FirstName LastName.” Hit the Enter key. This will automatically reset the Sim, and it will jump to a random area in the house.

Make sure to accurately enter the name of the Sim that needs to be reset. For example, if the Sim is named Alexis Leo, the cheat code would look like “resetSim Alexis Leo”

Players have the option to reset their Sims by making them travel. The method is pretty straightforward; here’s how players can travel with their Sims.

Click the “Manage Worlds” option from the menu. Open any world in The Sims 4. Choose a new location to travel with either the Sim that needs to be reset.

This puts the Sims in a new location and essentially works the same way as teleporting. Another advantage of traveling is that if some of the object interactions are glitchy – this fixes them too.

Move to a New Household willowcreek world map sims 4

If all else fails, the last resort would be to move the unresponsive Sim to an entirely new household and back to its old one or simply shift the entire family to a new household/lot.

Before taking such extreme measures, make sure the game has been saved just in case things go wrong.

Open the menu in the top-right corner. Click “Manage Worlds.” Click on “Manage Household” and choose the Sim that needs to be reset. From the menu, choose the option “Move Household into a lot” and find a new home for the Sim. Click on the Truck button in the bottom right to travel to a new household. This will move the unresponsive Sim to an entirely new lot where it resumes normal behavior.

Moving an entire household to a new location will either transfer all the furniture to the household inventory or sell it. It’s recommended to try all the other options first before resorting to this drastic option.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
