Spider-Man 2’s map will be twice the size of its predecessor

The creative director of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 recently revealed that the game’s map will be roughly twice the size of the one featured in the previous entry. This would make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 feature one of the biggest open world titles out there, as the first already featured a huge explorable area filled with interesting activities.

Released in 2018, the first Spider-Man PS4 game was hailed as one of the best entries in the franchise as it truly captured the experience of playing the famous Spidey. One of the reasons for this, and also one of the game’s greatest joys, was the freedom to web-swing across Manhattan. Compared to Insomniac Games’ previous title Sunset Overdrive, Spider-Man was already at least four to six times larger, and now players can expect a considerable increase in map size once again as they get ready to play. the sequence.

Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar spoke more about the size of the upcoming title in a recent interview with Japanese media outlet Famitsu. According to him, Queens and Brooklyn will be added as new explorable areas for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This change will roughly increase the size of the playable map by two times, as Manhattan will remain playable.

These two new areas are mostly residential and won’t have as many skyscrapers as Manhattan, so they’ll offer a very different gameplay experience when you visit them, and they’ll also have a “different charm,” Intihar explained. The creative director also stated that the developers have some pretty memorable situations lined up for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, citing an upriver battle between two cities as an example. With improved displacement mechanics such as increased movement speed when turning, players will also move between areas more easily.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players will be able to explore the massive city of New York as Peter Parker and Miles Morales this time around, each with different abilities, especially as Parker will be fused with the Venom symbiote. So, Spider-Man 2 will feature a new character switching system. Players will be able to switch between the two characters manually at virtually any point in the game, except during missions. Some missions, for example, will be exclusive to one character or another. Regardless, having characters that offer distinct gameplay experiences and a huge explorable area sounds like a pretty exciting deal for the new Spider-Man game.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released in Fall 2023 for PS5.
