It looks like Street Fighter 6 is a huge success for Capcom as it shatters the record for fighting game for most concurrent players on Steam. Street Fighter 6 was released on June 2nd across multiple game systems and comes with full support for cross-platform play.
Street Fighter 6 received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, as its PS5 version has a Metacritic score of 92. It has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with over 2,000 reviews, although the user score on Metacritic has yet to be published at the time of writing. Now, it looks like Street Fighter 6 has been a huge success for Capcom, at least on PC, as its number of concurrent users is much higher than other games in the genre.
As revealed on SteamDB, Street Fighter 6 has an all-time peak concurrent players of 70,573, as it manages to beat other well-known fighting games. Titles like Mortal Kombat 11 and Tekken 7 managed 35,147 and 18,966 concurrent players respectively, while Dragon Ball FighterZ had a maximum of 44,303 concurrent users on Steam. Thus, Street Fighter 6’s numbers are way ahead of other titles in the genre, and could rise even more in the coming days.
Many titles reach their peak concurrent player count the first weekend after launch, but games can also break that record many years after launch. As an example, Destiny 2 broke the peak concurrent player count record earlier this year with the launch of the Lightfall expansion.
Street Fighter 6 is supposed to be extremely beginner-friendly, which may have contributed to the high player numbers. For example, Street Fighter 6 features an alternate control scheme that allows users to easily perform special moves, making it easy for newer fans to play their favorite characters. It also comes with a huge amount of single-player content for players who aren’t interested in the online multiplayer component.
Street Fighter 6 is one of the highest rated games of 2023, joining The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Resident Evil 4 remake. More fighting games will be released in 2023, with Mortal Kombat 1 having a release date. Release date confirmed for September 19th. It will be interesting to see if Mortal Kombat 1, or any other title in its genre, can match Street Fighter 6’s maximum player count, but it might need the help of similarly high review scores to come close to those numbers.
Street Fighter 6 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
