By Abhik Sengupta: Apple has introduced new operating systems for iPads, Mac PCs and laptops, smartwatches, and Apple TVs. The new OS, namely iPadOS 17, macOS 14, WatchOS 10, and TVOS 17, respectively, were showcased at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2023 tonight (June 5), where the company also introduced iOS 17 for iPhones.
While the iPadOS 17 and iOS 17 share similarities, iPads will receive some standalone features. WatchOS received a slew of updates for health-focused customers. macOS 14 or macOS Sonoma for Macs also received features, like improved Safari and new screen savers. The latest TVOS is adding FaceTime to let users make video calls and screen the video directly on the big screen. Apple says all Apple products will receive OS updates “this fall.”
Here are the key features that iPads, Mac PCs and laptops, smartwatches, and Apple TV users in India and globally can enjoy in the coming months.
iPadOS 17
The new iPadOS 17 includes iOS 17-like interactive widgets, screen customisation, and live activities on the lock screen. It will also add the Health app to your iPad, to help users check out health metrics. The iPad’s Notes app is set to receive an exciting upgrade in iPadOS 17. One notable enhancement is the ability to effortlessly autofill PDFs within the app. Moreover, the updated Notes app will allow seamless real-time collaboration with others on PDFs.
Apple adds that it is improving the stage manager that keeps you in focus during a video call. Similar to iOS 17, Siri virtual assistant can now be activated by simply saying “Siri.” Once activated, users can issue multiple commands back to back without needing to reactivate them.
macOS Sonoma
To improve productivity on Apple Macs, Apple has introduced the new macOS, dubbed macOS Sonoma. The operating system brings new screen savers and widgets right on the home screen. The company claims widget will help users access information more seamlessly.
To enhance the experience, widgets will face once other apps are running on the desktop. Apple is also improving the gaming experience with a new “game mode”, which also exists on multiple Windows PCs.
